| Jenny Mizelle receives Outstanding Leader Business Award |
cbrowns4 writes, "Holly Springs resident Jenny Mizelle, who serves as The Town of Holly Springs’ Economic Development Director, received an Outstanding Leaders Award for 2006-2007 from the Wake County School-to-Career Council at their annual Volunteer Breakfast Celebration held September 25, 2007.
Mizelle chairs the Holly Springs Business Alliance serving Holly Springs Middle School and Holly Springs High School, in conjunction with career development counselors at both schools. She has spent the last two years establishing the Business Alliance committee, helping them manage project goals that meet student career goals and mentoring needs, while developing partnerships with local businesses and the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. The premise of local Business Alliance groups is to solicit business mentoring and job shadowing opportunities for students, not funds. "

At the event, several hundred attendees met at the Jane S. McKimmon Center to celebrate accomplishments from the 2006-07 school year, to hear goals for this year, and to honor nine awardees of the 2007 School-to-Career Outstanding Volunteer Award. Honored guests included Dr. June St. Clair Atkinson, the NC State Superintendent; Rebecca Payne, NC DPI Career and Technical Education Director; NC Representative Jennifer Weiss; NC Representative Grier Martin; Elizabeth Sasser, Office of the Governor; Melissa Bartlett, Center for 21st Century Skills Director and NC State Board of Education member; Felicia Gray-Watson, NC DPI Career Development Consultant, executive directors from several area chambers of commerce, Wake County Board of Education members, and officers from NCACTE.
The business volunteer awards were given to thank business volunteers for their gift of time and career expertise to Wake County middle and high schools. The 2007-08 year marks the 13th year for this collaborative partnership between business and education in Wake County.
