Holly Springs Business Alliance Recognizes Teachers & Students
writes, "The Holly Springs Business Alliance presented Katie DeLuca and Paige Berrier at Holly Springs High School and Jennifer Carroll and Becky Bailey at Holly Ridge Middle School with Extra Step Star Awards. These teachers and students took the “extra step” in career education."
After visiting Artspace in Raleigh with her Visual Arts II class last spring, Paige Berrier, a student at Holly Springs High School, took the initiative to look for an internship with Eric McCray, an artist at Artspace. Ms. Berrier was successful in her quest and began her internship this summer. She will continue with Mr. McCray this school year.

Becky Bailey, a Holly Ridge Middle School student, wants to pursue a career in politics “to change the world and make the world a safer place.” Ms. Bailey is already entering the realm of politics by serving as Vice-President of the Mayors Youth Advisory Board. She is also working on an initiative to create a flag for the Town of Holly Springs.

Jennifer Carroll, an art teacher at Holly Ridge Middle School provides such inspiration to her students that some may decide to pursue what they have considered as a hobby as their career choice instead. As yearbook advisor for the middle school, Ms. Carroll expects the student yearbook staff to act professionally and produce work of the same quality.

As a long term substitute teacher at Holly Springs High School, Katie DeLuca has taken her role very seriously, even preparing lesson plans of her own. While teaching a foods course at the school, Ms. DeLuca had students complete a nutritional handbook, many of which were displayed for our entire student body to see in one of our show cases.

The Extra Step Star Awards for October were sponsored by Bland Landscaping, an active member of the Holly Springs Business Alliance. The Holly Springs Business Alliance is a group of volunteer business leaders that work with faculty and staff from Holly Ridge Middle School and Holly Spring High School to promote career education and expectations in the school curriculum. The goal is for our high school graduates to be prepared with the skills they need to enter either the workforce or the post-secondary school system.
