| TYSC Teams Fall at Wrangler |

GREENSBORO - The Wave and United, both of the Triangle Y Soccer Club, participated in the Wrangler Jeans/McDonald's Youth Soccer Classic in Greensboro over Memorial Day weekend. The tournament boasted teams from all over the southeastern United States and was held at Bryan Park, known for some of the best playing fields in the country.
The Wave, playing in the girls under 12 division, opened against a Sundance all-star team from Chapel Hill and fell 1-0.
"I felt sure that we were the better team in that first game," said Wave coach John Alexander. "We just couldn't put it in the net."
The Wave also faced the Greensboro Hurricanes and eventual champion Miss-fits.
"The players had a blast and played their guts out," Alexander said.
"If nothing else, they will remember this tournament for a long, long time."
It took two all-star teams to finally beat United, which was riding a 12-1-1 record into the tournament. The team faced the Cool Spring Hawks, an all-star team from Statesville, and jumped out early on a Brett Johnson goal. Cool Spring tied it up going into half and then went ahead in the second half. United thought that it had tied the game when Matt DeBella scored, but the goal was ruled offside.
United had a chance to play in the championship if it could get a victory against KSA White, an all-star team from Kernersville. Kernersville ran out to a 2-0 lead before United roared back to tie it on goals from Johnson and Gutierrez. In the second half KSA scored for the victory.
"I couldn't be happier for our team," said United coach BJ Attarian.
"They played against all-star teams from some of the best leagues in the state and were in position to win each of the games. Our boys put a lot of effort into those games and really played their hearts out."
