TYSC Aging Gracefully takes 2nd at Kick it 3-on-3
writes, "Members of TYSC's Aging Gracefully. Sean Mayefskie, Bob Neil, Bill Farrington and Liam Flannery. The team qualifies for the regionals in Tennessee. "
Four coaches from TYSC, Sean Mayefskie (Holly Springs), Bob Neil, Bill Farrington & Liam Flannery (all from Apex) got together and entered the ‘Kick it 3v3’ Soccer Tournament as ‘Aging Gracefully’. The event was held at the Morrisville Cedar Forks soccer complex this past weekend. Saturday saw ‘Aging Gracefully’ play the first of three games against 3 freshman from Old Dominion U. Off to a quick start, Aging Gracefully took a 4-0 lead 3 minutes into the game. Letting the ball do the work, they frustrated the faster & quicker freshman. Game ended 12-2. Aging Gracefully played their second game against ‘Aged’ from Raleigh. Good game, but Aging Gracefully could not get their legs for the second game and came away empty with a 8-4 loss. Their third game of the day came against ‘Internationale’ from Sanford. The young 20 something’s brought great foot work but could not get the ball in the net. Aging Gracefully took a 5-2 half-time lead. Hoping not to let the younger legs take over in the second half, Aging Gracefully came out quickly in the with 3 goals to keep Internationale on their heels. Aging Gracefully ended Saturday with a 2-1 record. With the way Saturday’s results ended, Sunday had Aging Gracefully starting the semi-finals against Internationale one more time. Knowing Internationale would look from some revenge, Aging Gracefully came out quick and got ahead with a 4-0 lead and kept the lead going into half time, 5-1. The game didn’t change much as Aging Gracefully finished the game with an 11-4 win to head into the finals hoping for redemption against Aged who hadn’t lost a game. The Championship game was hot and it showed on the field. Both started slowly trying to figure each other out. Aging Gracefully took a quick 2-0 lead. Trying to keep up the tempo Aging Gracefully got caught twice off guard and Aged tied it up. Half-time saw Aging Gracefully leading 4-3. While the mind believes it can do it, the 40+ body says something else. The heat was too much and Aged took a quick 3 goal lead and never looked back. Aging Gracefully did take second place in the ‘Open Competitive’ division & did qualify for the Regional’s in Clarksville, Tenn. They hope to head there the first week of August.
