Wave Start Season With A Victory
writes, "The TYSC Wave played a close game but came away with a victory against the Mustangs."
As the game got under way it was a back and forth battle with possession in the midfield constantly changing. Neither team could gain any momentum as both defenses turned the others offense away. Anytime the Mustangs worked the ball into the Wave half of the field the defenders turned them away, but the Wave just couldn’t turn those breaks into offensive scoring chances. The Mustang defense held their ground as well and didn’t allow any Wave shots on goal the entire first half. The Mustangs only had one shot on goal themselves. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

The second half started out just the same, ball control in the midfield going back and forth, with some ball movement on the outside. In the 37th minute the Wave were finally able to break the tie when Sasha Pasley-Garrette worked hard in the Mustang half of the field and broke out of the crowd. She pushed in and made good on her shot to give the Wave a 1-0 lead. That got the Wave pumped up and it wasn’t long after that there was another struggle in the Mustang half of the field. This time Erin Pierce was able to push the ball to Garrette who drove in for another score to give the Wave a two goal lead in the 41st minute. The Mustangs, not letting the two goal deficit get to them, continued to work hard, but the Wave defenders and goalie did enough to keep them out of the net. In the 50th minute a good combination between Rachael White and Emily Hussey would have put the Wave up by three, but it was called back due to the play being offside. The Mustangs subbed in fresh players quickly, but it wasn’t enough and the Wave held on to get the win. A great defensive effort by Abby Burroughs, Kelsie Clifton, Alex Lara, April Neumann, and Nikki Bradshaw gave the Wave goalies an easy day as Morgan Karlok and Leah Miller only had to make a total of four saves to preserve the shutout. The Wave offense, consisting of many substitutions, of Audrey Jandorek, Katherine Peters, Emily Hussey, Erin Pierce, Kat Warren, Rachel White, and Sasha Pasley-Garrette worked well together when it counted.
